The Cairo Montenotte Earth Market was launched on October 18, 2008 and is held every second Saturday in Piazza della Vittoria.
A group of around 40 producers attend the market, with about 20-25 present each time. All kinds of food produce is available, from beer, oil, and cured meat to fruit and vegetables, cheese and fish.
Cairo Montenotte (population about 15,000) is the main center of Val Bormida, province of Savona. In recent times the area has experienced industrial development. Its gastronomy is influenced both by the sea, only 18 kilometers away, and the neighboring Langhe.
The market is coordinated by the Alta Valle Bormida convivium, which was created in spring 2005 with more than 100 members. The Cairo Montenotte Earth Market is supported by the Cairo Montenotte municipality, Slow Food Liguria, Coldiretti, Confartigianato, Cia, Lega Cooperative Savona, Proloco Città di Cairo Montenotte, Slow Food Alta Val Bormida convivium, Ass. Zucca di Rocchetta and Purchasing Groups from Savona.
President of the market's management committee is Paolo Baldo, representing the convivium.
